TERMS & CONDITIONS
How do I know a manuscript assessment is right for me?
Manuscript assessment is suitable for writers at all levels of experience, whether you're just starting out or whether you've been published before.
No matter where you are on your writing journey, it goes without saying that you should have your manuscript assessed before sending it out to potential agents or publishers to ensure that all the parts of your story are working in concert and that your manuscript is the best that it can possibly be.
Having said that, I must include a small disclaimer here... As much as I’d love a publisher to recognise your genius and offer you a publishing contract as soon as they've finished reading your work, I cannot accept any responsibility if they don’t. The publishing industry is a fickle industry. What sells one day, is pulp the next.
So, with that said, what exactly can I do for you?
Well, like all good editors, I can usually detect recurring problems in a 3000-4000 word sample, which is also enough to show me the approach you have taken to style, mood, setting, genre, and language, as well as dialogue and exposition. However, there are many things a 3000-4000 word sample cannot show me including, for example, overall plot, structure, and pacing, character development and arcs, or theme.
How much does it cost?
That depends on how many words you have. Here's the scale:
15,000 words (60 pages) $260
30,000 words (120 pages) $350
60,000 words (240 pages) $485
80,000 words (320 pages) $650
90,000 words (360 pages) $775
120,000 words (480 pages) $900
A manuscript evaluation takes a lot of time, energy, and knowledge to complete. Beware of too-good-to-be-true prices and remember that you generally get what you pay for.
Note: All pricing is subject to change without notice.
I guarantee that I will read every word of your word of your manuscript, which means absolutely no skimming.
Can you assess my manuscript again?
If you've assessed my manuscript before, will you give me a discount if I submit a revised version?
Yes, you can. A ten percent discount will be applied if you resubmit the whole manuscript for reassessment.
I also offer ongoing assessment where you can resubmit a particular section or sections of your manuscript. You will be invoiced a fee of $60 per hour for this service.
Where possible, and subject to my availability, I can off instant assessment on the resubmission of a section of your manuscript. You will be invoiced a fee of $70 per hour for this service.
(Please note that manuscript assessment is not developmental editing. Developmental editing is a deep-dive edit that is beyond the scope of an assessment and takes significantly more hours (and dollars) than a manuscript assessment.)
What file format should my manuscript be?
It should be a regular Word document (.doc or .docx). The text on all pages should be double spaced. Unfortunately, I cannot read Mac formatted documents so if you work on a Mac, please ensure that you have converted your manuscript to a Word document before sending.
What about confidentiality?
I take confidentiality very seriously. As such, everything I read and everything we discuss is totally confidential.
Still got questions?
No problem. Contact me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
